July 16th
Leaving for Dulles on the red eye!
July 17th
James sleeping during our early morning layover.
We arrived and went to see the sights of James' mission - lots of video's. Very few pictures - just this rain storm - and this pic does not do it justice - and our over priced seafood dinner. It was an old restaurant famous for crab cakes. Note to self: crab cakes are not all that!
July 18th
Checking out Laurel Park.
Toured Montpelier built in 1783
Then we went to Lincoln's summer cottage - he stayed there (AKA The Soldiers Home) while serving as president.
On the metro that night heading to the National Mall
If it looks like my makeup is melting off? It's because it was. It was so dang hot.
We were not aware the metro closed at 11 pm and we ended up taking a Lyft back to our car parked at the Metro station.
July 19th
Arlington Cemetery the next day.
7,000 steps
And then we opted for air conditioned museums
This was a highlight! Soaking our feet in the fountain along with hundreds of other over heated tourists.
James meeting Paisley for the first time - 1 am!!
July 20th
Driving into the city the next day:
Stopping for breakfast:
Ready to see the sights!
Holocaust Museum
Alex and Kayla went to see the National Mall and we kept Pais - too hot for this little babe.
Grandpa rocking her to sleep in the stroller:
Staying inside where there's air conditioning - checking out more museums.
Alex had an issue with his shorts and the heat and riding a scooter!
It was sooooo hot!
Alex's birthday dinner:
July 21st
Attempting to get Pais to sleep in the football hold
The next day we drove to North Carolina
Stopping for lunch
And we convinced our men folk to stop at the National Marine Museum
Here's Alex giving us his best "boot" imitation:
July 22nd
Back at home in North Carolina
Last minute snuggles with Pais:
Alex had to be at work on Monday - we stopped to bring him lunch and say goodbye:
July 23rd - July 24th
James and I then drove to Myrtle beach Monday the 22nd, with plans to leave the next day BUT we didn't actually leave until the day after due to thunderstorms. Apparently I was terrible about taking pictures. Not a one of this part of our trip but we had a great time! Swam in the ocean, walked in a rainstorm, ate Italian food, stayed at a scary hotel and witnessed a crack head getting arrested. Walked to the airport the next day and finally headed for home!
