It was so cold and awful outside that it was a perfect day to make Borscht. I didn't tell Alex, I just wished him a Merry Ukraine Christmas that morning and off he went to school.
I decided to stop at European Tastee's for a few Ukraine candies and I grabbed a few more things to add to our dinner. So the menu consisted of:
Borscht
Vereniki's
Perushki's
Meat Paste (Gross)
Bread
Cucumbers
Sunflower Candy
Juice
Ukraine cookies and candy
Alex was at swimming until six but he was so HAPPY to see this spread.
He said the prayer over the food and thanked God for my "skills".
He also thanked me about 5 times and gave me about 5 extra hugs.

He ca be so loving and affectionate. It's sweet. I wanted to make Ukraine dishes for our boys (well, and the rest of us) Monday, but our boys aren't familiar with any Ukrainian dishes. They've had cabbage rolls, which I've made, paska (made the wrong one), and veriniki. They like the potato veriniki but never could afford cheese to put in the inside mixture so it ended up being basically a mashed potato ravioli w/ sour cream on top? And I've made borscht but they wouldn't even try it claiming their grandmother made them eat it all the time and they hated it. I'm still going to try to make some foods and introduce them to it if nothing else, but I didn't do anything for Ukraine Christmas. You're a good mom.
