Matchbox Cars and Choir Concerts....

Last night we took Lex to Devree's choir concert. I decided not to tell him where we were going, which may or may not have been a bad idea. I was afraid he wouldn't want to go (He's pretty opinionated) so we just ambushed him like we do when we take Austin shopping.
Anyway, we get to the school and he won't get out of the car. He spouts off in words we cannot understand. We try to explain he's not going to school that we're going to watch Devree. After some coaxing, we get him in but he won't sit by me or look at me. Luckily for us we live in "Litte Ukraine" (as our social worker calls our neighborhood) and I spotted a lady in my sisters ward that had adopted and asked if the girl next to her was from the Ukraine? Yep. Could she come talk to Alex and see what is wrong? (She is beautiful with the most beautiful teeth - like a toothpaste model. She's 18 I think) She sits by him and for some reason he thought we were going to the store to buy him another matchbox car? What? Anyway, he wouldn't look at me through the boys songs, then Dev came on and I pointed her out and he took off his little am/fm headphones and actually clapped, then asked if he could take her picture (which turned out way better than mine).

(Mine) (His)
Afterwards we were mulling around trying to locate Devree and he was making Kambree and Austin laugh by making fun of people. Like imitating fat people. I know that's not nice but it was funny, I didn't laugh but he had Kam & Aug rolling!
Anyway, we went home and had a computer talk about how you have to earn things at our house not just get them. He wasn't too happy or agreeable about it but he did not sulk like he did at the school.
He had found an old paper airplane making book and he and Austin made airplanes last night. (Austin was like "Where did he find this? I've been looking for this." He's pretty smart, these airplanes are not easy in English let alone without the written instructions, he just follows the folding instructions. He was pretty proud that his went farther than Austins!

The other thing he is extremely proud of is I let him have (for the time being) the remote to the garage off my key chain. He goes in and out so much with his bike that I figured it couldn't hurt. He is so proud of it. He showed it to all his orphan friends yesterday and this morning to Brach (our cousin that carpools with us to school). He just grins and pantomimes the garage door going up and down.
This morning I made a deal with him that for every 5 English words he learns I will buy him a new matchbox car. He's okay with that. His first word today is "hug" which he loves to do. He doesn't seem to want to learn English as much as teach us Ukrainian.

Another cool thing is he knows where everything in the house is. This morning Kambree lost her keys to the van. I pantomimed driving and said "Honda" and he held up his finger and said "Ah" and ran downstairs just as Kambree was heading down and they both found her keys at the same time. Seriously, first the airplane book, now the keys. It's like he's memorizing everything.
We're going on a bike ride now. I'm hoping he can make it to Gardner Village but maybe we'll just make it to the playground where the ducks are. I've made arrangement's for him to go play during PE with Rylee's class. Don't know if he'll like that. Don't know if I'll tell him or just let him figure it out. I guess we'll see.

2 of my blog friends said something...:
