What a weird weather day!
It was so sunny and nice. ("Burning hot" according to Alex.) After piano recitals (will post pics and video soon) this morning, we had nothing we HAD to do.
So nice.
There was plenty we SHOULD be doing but due to a small surgery I had on my mouth (gum grafting) I talked myself out of planting the garden, took a prescription Motrin and decided to lay down for a nap.
Before laying down, Alex & Rylee were trying to figure out something to do. (Alex has lost "screen" privliges for the weekend due to missing assignments in school and so we ALL suffer. Anything with a screen is revoked. I-pods, computers, TV's, DS's the works!) Last I heard he was trying to talk Rylee into a ride to Gardner Village but her bike is out of commission and so she was thinking park and then he was thinking fishing but she didn't want to go the park and play by herself if Alex was going to fish and no one was seeing eye to eye.
Fast forward to me just finally getting to sleep and the kids charging up the stairs announcing that Alex had pumped up Rylee's tires and they were off to Garner Village. By this time the storm clouds are gathering and I in my drowsy state suggest it might not be a good time? Maybe it will rain?
Determined, they put on rain slickers and a "water proof" jacket and off they went.
Brother and sister.
Finally figuring something to do.
No one was stopping them.
Not a few little rain drops.
Just minutes after leaving I hear rolling thunder and it begins to POUR!
Cats and dogs like!
Oh my.
I can't go get them. The Parkway is not a road. The only thing I can do is wait. I had sent my cell phone but forwarded it to the house as to not miss any work related calls. They could call me but I couldn't call them.
The rain gets worse.
Soon it's like standing in a shower at full blast!
Ahh...what to do?
Do I go out on my bike after them?
Do they have enough sense to find cover and wait it out?
I have Devree text my phone.
No answer.
No answer.
Twenty minutes after leaving, they finally stagger back in, looking like drowned rats.
Dripping wet!
(This is a terrible-size ways- cell phone photo because my camera battery was dead after recording their recital this morning! ) They're in the garage and the rain has let up some but is still coming down hard. Look how wet the are!
I brought them towels and they stripped down in the garage. They couldn't wear dripping wet clothes into the house! Alex showered and Rylee took a hot bubble bath.
We turned on the gas log fire place to dry their shoes.
I had just stuck brownies in the oven right after they left - because they woke me up and you know....sore mouth....pain meds? One MUST have chocolate!
After serving brownies they sat in front of the fire playing the game of Life.
The sun is shinning now and we're baking with the fire on so I've turned it off and opened the windows.
Good thing I talked myself out of gardening.
Mother nature in Utah is so bi-polar sometimes!
