Sweet Silence

Can I just share how much I love quiet?
Oh, I do. Quiet is the nicest sound I know right now. I'm sitting in my quiet house-except for the comforting white noise of the washer and dryer-faithfully working on today's laundry-just enjoying the peace.
Last night after my chaotic day of arguing repair issues on one of my houses, showing houses, attempting to direct 5th graders in a play and getting kids places and fed, I put Alex to bed early, Rylee was in bed reading, Kambree had fallen asleep on the couch and Devree and Austin were at young women's and scouts AND our house was so very quiet. I just basked in the silence. It makes me feel sort of old to think I find pleasure in peace BUT normally our house is chaotic!
Not in an angry, fighting sort of way. No. It's just everyone has their noises. Someone has I-tunes on, or watching something on the computer, someone is dancing, someone is playing video games, someone is jumping outside on the tramp with friends, or making cookies with the radio on, shooting hoops out front, playing the guitar or practicing piano, singing silly songs, or running in or out or up or down, yelling for me, a sibling or shouting if anyone has seen their whatever they're looking for. Or they could be having rubber band wars, playing tag through the house, wrestling, having a pillow fight, tattling on each other, asking for treats or begging me to take them somewhere or drive the car, or making the dog do tricks or bark.
It's like everyone is enveloped in a puff of sounds around them. Sort of like Pig Pen from Charlie Brown. And last night it felt like all the dusty sound clouds had magically fell to the floor and been swept up. Although fleeting- tranquility just descended upon the house and I just basked in the silent sweetness.
Yeah. I know. I'm getting old.

Here's more of my thoughts from last year:

Yes, the quiet is sweet, but I'm afraid once they're all gone, I'll wish for the chaotic days. How was lunch yesterday? My dad's surgery was supposed to be done in the morning, and at 11:30, they hadn't even taken him in yet. I didn't want to leave my mom. Please update me, okay?

I have to hide in my closet to get silence at my house. With my two Ukranian puppy dogs and a very talkative husband. I have never valued silence more in my whole life. I loved your post. One year ago we were hanging out together in Ukraine. I can't believe it has been a year, but then it seems like forever ago too. Jeff and I have been talking about you the last few days remembering and laughing lots. Yesterday we were remembering Masha LOL!
