To Dance

Skins?
Foot Unddies?
Spanks?
These are all terms I have learned in the last two years as the mother of a Murray High dance company member.
I have learned a few other things as well.
Dancers are incredibly strong.
They have to be to be.
We have girls on the team who pack ice on their ankles after the performance, wear wrist braces during the day and have dislocated shoulders that they'll allow to rest and heal AFTER concert!
These dancers are covered in bruises. Bruises they hit over and over as they rehearse over and over the same falling down-slam to the ground step that caused them in the first place.
They dance Monday-Friday from 4-5 hours and then do eleven hours on Saturday for the two weeks before concert.
The sweat, they cry, they stress about costume changes, and then the curtain's up and they smile and dance and grace the stage with pose, professionalism and polish.
Last night was the first of two concerts.
And like her first concert at age four when she was placed up front for the others to follow, she makes me so proud and never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
I love to watch Kambree dance.
I love being her mom.
And I'm so very proud of her.

This is Kambree in her dance costume around age 7 or 8

I wish I had pictures of her from last night in each of her EIGHT costumes but no flash photography. But here's her Hazen dance picture this year....

Yes, she's beautiful.
Even more beautiful inside.

One of the things that upset me the most last year about being stuck in Ukraine was missing Kam's dance concert. Today's post from last year even talks about it!

That's so funny - when I started cheer-coaching I kept hearing the word 'spankies' which I finally realized were what we always called 'trunks'...I'm so unhip :)
